Legal Basis

The Electric Power Industry Reform Act (EPIRA), enacted in the Philippines in 2001, was designed to transform the electric power industry to achieve several key objectives. The main goals of EPIRA include:

Greater Efficiency:

One of the primary objectives of EPIRA is to ensure and accelerate the total electrification of the country. This means expanding electricity access to all regions, including remote and underserved areas, thereby improving the quality of life and economic opportunities for all Filipinos.

The reform seeks to provide consumers with reliable and affordable electricity. By encouraging competition among power producers and suppliers, EPIRA aims to drive down electricity costs while maintaining high standards of reliability and service.
